STANDING ON SHOULDERS

This double bill brings you into the creative process of composers, tracking inspiration and showcasing Canadian voices in composition. Lorna Tsai, Jennifer Frank and Oksana Yaremchuk present Brahms’ dazzling Horn Trio, followed by Canadian composer Kelly-Marie Murphy’s “Call of the Horn” written a century later inspired by Brahms’ work. Calgarian talent is spotlit as violinist Donovan Seidle will premiere a work written for him by violist/composer Arthur Bachmann. Share in this special event!

LORNA TSAI, violin

Lorna Tsai is the Principal Second Violinist of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, a position she has held since 2011. A graduate of Northwestern University and Yale University School of Music, she has performed internationally as both an orchestral and chamber musician and is a co-founder and co-director of Manchester Summer Chamber Music.

OKSANA YAREMCHUK, piano

Oksana Yaremchuk is a Ukrainian-born collaborative pianist who began her career performing with singers and instrumentalists and has been recognized as a “Best Accompanist” throughout her career. Now based in Calgary, she is a collaborative pianist at Mount Royal University Conservatory and has performed with ensembles including Calgary’s Festival Chorus and Cantare Children’s Choir.
