PROGRAM
Enjoy the sparkling and soulful sounds of the all-star Calgary Brass Quintet as they bring together contemporary works written specifically for this instrumentation with arrangements of beloved works. This concert will bring new perspectives to the music of Bach and Mendelssohn as well as contemporary directions from composers David Sampson and Reena Esmail. Witness the versatility of these instruments and the virtuosity of these players with this diverse program.
The brass quintet is a relatively new type of ensemble, leaving us with the tantalizing question of what many great composers would have written it. Luckily, there are great composers writing for brass quintet right now, and we are enthusiastic to perform both. Dazzling arrangements of beloved works by Bach or Mendelssohn give us a taste of what might have been, while contrasting new works for brass quintet show how great composers are writing for today’s players and modern instruments. The sonic range of a brass quintet is without equal among chamber ensembles, and this balanced program showcases just about all of it.TBD
