LIGHT AND SHADOW

“Light and Shadow” moves through music as a journey from brightness into mystery. Beethoven opens the program with clarity and classical grace, Liszt follows with lyricism that feels suspended in air, and Prokofiev brings a darker, more haunting edge, full of tension and echoes. In the resonant space of a church, the concert becomes a play of silence, memory, and atmosphere, before traditional melodies bring the evening home with warmth and stillness.

Pianist Dmitri Nesterov performs virtuosic solo works by Beethoven and Liszt, joined by his wife Olga Kotova for Prokofiev’s haunting Violin Sonata No. 1. Music that will inspire the imagination, from the grace and wit of Beethoven, the expressive lyricism of Liszt, and the introspection and exuberance of Prokofiev.
